The fashion industry has been known as the second polluter in the world, right behind the oil industry. The amount of waste from fabrics, water, dyes, and much of it being thrown away is the main cause of it all. However, in 2023, Gen Z designers and established young brands are taking it upon themselves to change the fashion industry with ethical practices of using deadstock fabrics, recycling, and trying to be as close to “zero waste” as possible from design to manufacturing. Most of the time fast fashion is to blame for most of the industry’s contribution to polluting our planet, but designers in general can sometimes use practices that are overall detrimental to the Earth.

These designers below have made New York Fashion Week just a bit more eco-conscious. While fashion’s bad rep is getting cleaned up, designers along with consumers have the opportunity to follow in these young brand’s footsteps to continue this positive path.

Take a look through what brands to keep supporting if you want to be a bit more eco-conscious about what you’re buying.
