As creative director of Givenchy, Matthew M. Williams has experimented with an array of different photographers to capture his vision for the storied French fashion house. Campaigns since his debut collection for Spring 2021 have predominately been captured by Heji Shin, with Williams also commissioning photographers such as Thibaut Grevet, Nick Knight and now champions Tyler Mitchell with the unveiling of the brand’s Holiday 2023 campaign. Williams endorses models Amelia Grey and Kit Butler as the faces of Givenchy’s festive new collection, which builds on silhouettes first shown on the runway during Paris Fashion Week. Givenchy’s staple Antigona handbag is featured throughout, in addition to unique variations of the iconic Sharklock boots.
“Did someone just discover Irving Penn’s corner portraits?” asked blueorchid upon checking out the campaign imagery.
“These are grim. And Amelia looks as if she’s just smelt something bad in nearly all the shots, although she kind of looks like that anyway in general so no hope trying to change that,” voiced Cocteau Stone.
Also majorly underwhelmed was 90sFan, critiquing: “Not sure who gets a prize for the most boring of the ingredients in this: Max Pearmain as stylist (yaaaawn) or Tyler Mitchell (BOOOOORINNNNNGGGGG)!”
“Love Kit Butler but don’t understand Amelia Grey’s appeal,” chimed in FAdS.
Yet not everyone was left so disenchanted by the end result. “It’s utterly devoid of any sense of joy and festivity, but I somehow don’t loathe this much as I should,” confessed vogue28.
“I love the mood of the campaign and both models look great,” WAVES expressed.
